Will damaged buds still open?
Hey there, it's been a while since I posted, but I have a question.
Tonight I found that my cynoches warscwixii. (Sp??) had fallen over, and the two buds it has now have 2 small cuts on their outer surface, but the stalk is otherwise undamaged. Is it possible that these damaged buds might still open? Or are they doomed to fall off completely? Just curious if anyone knows or has had this happen. Thanks. |
I think it's very possible that they will open. A hint for the future... Catasetinae tend to be really top heavy. And if you have reduced watering (with dormancy approaching) which makes the medium ligher, even more so. When I have that situation I put the plant, pot and all, into a terracotta pot just for the weight. Later, when the plant is fully dormant, perhaps when repotted, consider potting it into a terracotta pot which will solve the problem next year.

Thank you for the quick reply. Yeah, I had left the plant in the plastic pot it came in, figured I'd repot it in the spring. I failed to take into account that the pot would be so light when I let it dry out, and the flower stalk unbalanced it and sent it tumbling. I have since slipped it into an empty terracotta one and it seems to be stable. It's encouraging to hear that the buds may still survive, they seem to be about halfway finished, and so far seem to still be growing.
