Ctt. Final Blue

I know. I said no new plants until I moved. But this bag baby was just crying out wanting me to take it home. After looking it up and checking it out as well as I could considering the packaging, I couldn't resist. Original tag said LC Final Blue. There was a name change so I made out a new tag.

Good move, great find. You may not find those "bag babies" after your move... I think their distribution is mostly in the South. (I have never seen them where I live) So if you see something great like this, grab it!

I'm jealous! I miss those Bettergro bag babies.

I would buy that too. This is obviously an acceptable exception to make. Post pics of the blooms!

When the time comes that it is big enough to divide, I'd be happy to make some available. It may take awhile. Thanks for all the positive comments. If it grows as well as the other cats in my care it shouldn't be more than a couple years. If I run into any more of them I'll let the OB know.

Thanks Dusty! I definitely did an internet search for that plant. 75% walkeriana!

Nice catch, I am a frequent sunbulb baggie scanner at mostly lowe's and HD. have not seen that cross yet but my odds are good of stumbling onto it. BTW many of those sunbulb baggies plants are also at Palmer's orchids nursery as Mr Palmer is (was?) the grower of sunbulb. I see many of the baggie plants I've purchased pictured from sunbulb at Palmer's website.

So this was purchased on 12/5 and immediately given a soak in Kelpak, then watered with my usual routine of twice a week with fert weakly weekly (100ppm N). As of yesterday's watering I noticed 3 new roots poking through. So about 3 weeks from the Kelpak to new roots. There may or may not be a correlation there. Today I repotted into semi hydro with a Kelpak soak beforehand.
One new growth has appeared on the opposite side of the previous growth from where the new roots are. I found that a bit odd, but it will do what it will do and I am just a quiet (yeah, right) observer. Updates will come.

Do I want to know what a bag baby is?

Those who can buy them can explain better... I have never seen these in their usual haunts of big-box home improvement store. (All I have ever seen at Home Depot are generic Phals, etc., usually in poor condition) Distribution seems to be mostly in US south and southeast.

Not that we have any shortage of places to buy nice seedlings... in southern California we have options the the rest of the US lacks. (Starting with being in easy driving distance of SVO and Santa Barbara Orchid Estate)
