Black orchid finally going too flower????

Hello everyone, after months of waiting I think my Millenium magic. 'Witchcraft' black orchid is sprouting a flower shoot???
Am I correct? Cool |
First, Welcome!
That definitely looks like a flower spke. A suggestion... place the pot into a heavier pot (such as terracotta) Once it goes dormant, you can repot into a larger pot, absolutely you don't want to disturb it now! But if you simply place the plant, pot and all, into a heavier pot, you'll reduce the risk of knocking it over as the spike develops (which would be tragic...) |
Hi. Thanks. It has taken a tumble many times and I'd hate too break that flower spike off, so I stopped by thrift shop and got a ceramic pot and will a bit of gravel also to keep it safe.
Now I water it every couple of days and fertilize it every Monday should I keep up the same routine or what? Any other info is greatly appreciated Thank you |
You can keep up the watering while the leaves are green... if they start to show signs of browning, then you should start to reduce water a bit. You can also start to reduce fertilizer - perhaps keep the same frequency but reduce the concentration by half. If it loses its leaves while still in spike, they you would reduce the water some more... this type is quite capable of blooming as it goes dormant.

Will do. Thank you

Hi all. Just adding an updated picture of my plant , I placed it in a larger pot with stone too stabilize it. Just doing what I've been doing ,watering and fertilizing and it seems to be doing fine.
Can't wait too see the blooms going to be really cool. I'll post more as it progresses. Thanks |

Hello again, Looks like it's going dormant. Leaves turning yellow and dropping. Concerned me at first then I realized what was happening.
I'll cut back on watering and fertilizer for the winter. It will continue to bloom I hope, still waiting for the buds too open they are still quite firm. |
These do tend to bloom as they are going dormant. So treat as a "going dormant plant"and reduce watering, no fertilizer.
