Would like help to know what this orchid is
1 Attachment(s)
Hi,
New to the board and would like help to get an idea of what this orchid is. I'm thinking its a reed-stemmed epidendrum, but not exactly sure. It has not bloomed before so that makes it hard to give a specific idea but obviously I'm giving some sun outside. It has just started a new growth, still tiny. |
Hey, welcome!
Your plant looks like a Dendrobium to me. Here is a link to some cultural information: Novice Dendrobium Culture Sheet Good luck! |
Welcome to the Orchid Board.
I agree, it's likely a Dendrobium related to Den. kingianum. |
Thank you both for your input. I've had a number of dendrobiums over the years but for some reason it didn't occur to me for this to be one, but I agree with both of you. I felt I was giving this too much sun so moved it to a location where it gets a few hours of morning sun and shade in the afternoon. I'll keep a close eye on it, thanks again.

Dendrobium kingianum (and it's hybrids) do just fine in full sun - provided that you:
Water it copiously from spring through mid October. Fertilize regularly from spring through mid September. No fertilizer from 9/15 till you see blooms. Reduce watering 90% from 10/15 till you see buds. |
