Phal flower spike coming from root base?
Not a pro but not quite a beginner either, but this one is new to me.
Noticed a little green tip poking out of the leca and didn't think much of it. A week goes by and time for a water check when I see the tip is kind of funny looking, doesn't have the white sheath. Lo and behold, it's a FLOWER spike, not a root at all!!! Upon careful inspection, it's coming from the absolute base where I would expect a root, not a flower. Image at Phal Root Flower I lost the leaf above it a while back to sunburn and it was on my 'hospital' shelf which is why this is a bit of a surprise. Questions: Is this a last gasp attempt for this plant? Is this akin to a terminal flower that would appear in the crown?[COLOR="Silver"] |
First, Welcome!
I suspect the plant was just potted a little deep. Flower spikes from the base are normal. Not a last gasp at all, more likely an indication of a happy plant. Congratulations! |
