Now blooming: Paph Dark Master x Macabre

The full tag lists this as "Dark Master 'Velvet Prince' x Macabre 'Redstone'" and we had to talk about boundaries when it first came home, given that dramatic name. Bought as a fan with a bud in progress. If this is impossible to reflower, don't tell me!

With a name like that I would have thought "all black" or that deep red they consider black in flowers. I love this stripy/ spotted pattern. It seems really "turn of the century" (19th to 20th). Paphs are fairly easy. Easier than phalaenopsis. The only thing you can really kill them with (care wise) is not watering them. There are a lot of good guides and explainations. (Oh, one thing I learned between when I had orchids before and orchids now is that window light is not always sufficient. I got a good grow light and have them both in the window and under the grow light).

it's interesting that the spots extend on to the pouch/lip!

That's a really nice one!!! The weirder looking the Paph, the more I like it.

Optimist - Funny, I find Paphs more difficult that Phals. They grow ok it seems, but I only get blooms every 2-4 years....

That is striking! Nice job!

sometimes they will kick out a 2nd bud from the flowering spike indeed.

some have more multi floral tendencies than others depending on how far back and how many generations and iterations of the plant have been produced. More times it will require a new growth to mature and bloom again. The better you get at growing these you will find they will bloom every year for you with each new growth being equal if not exceeding the previous growth

Fantastic looking flower. The purple goes so well with the green and white.
