What are your growing conditions please? I have the yellow variety and it gives me fits.

I am using a bunch of things that I had, I mixed some moss, bark, jungle mix and orchid potting soil from Home depot. Anyway that is what I think I used. I have other of the same orchid that I divided but this is the only one that has bloomed so far.

are the requirements for a tenufolia that different to a variabilis? we have found maxilaria to be one of the easier plants in our collection, but i wouldnt think the requirements would be so different in the same genera

just curious, thanks. your plant looks great, btw!

The conditions for M. tenuifolia and M. variabilis are, in fact similar. I grow them in the same area on my patio. HOWEVER you can't generalize to all Maxillarias from the cultural similarity of these two... the genus is huge and very diverse. For any particular species, you need to look at the details of its habitat which can vary over a wide range of elevations and therefore temperature, for instance.
