Hi all! I have been a member for sometime, but am just coming back on. Like many of you here, I have an orchid problem! I am closing in of 50 orchids of different types. Looking for suggestions on reputable sites to purchase different varieties of orchids. I have a person a couple hours away, but would like to look at other outlets. I am in northern Ohio. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!:D |
Welcome back!
Take a look at the Vendor Feedback subforum... lots of excellent vendors, with reviews, can bring an endless variety of orchids to your mailbox...The only problem is "How to set limits"! |
Welcome!:)

Are you somebody who is willing to attend orchid shows at this point in the pandemic? (Some of us are not, and I totally understand.) The Ann Arbor Orchid Society is having their first in-person festival in three years this coming March 19 and 20. See their website for a list of vendors who will have plants for sale:
aaosonline.org The festival page is totally up to date, but disregard other pages such as the one with meeting dates. We have a new webmaster who is working hard to update the site, but that page still has older dates on it. Depending on where you are in northern Ohio, it could be only a couple-hour drive for you. |
Hi Cheri,
Yes! I attended the Cleveland show a couple of weekends ago. They did not seem to have many varieties, mainly phalaenopsis. I might have to check the MI show out!! Thanks so much!! The largest show in Ohio, West Shore Orchid Society Show, is almost here. Like Windswept in Time Orchids and Roberts Flower Supply, it is a few hours travel (I live south of Akron) so I usually buy most of my orchids online.
The American Orchid Society There are many great vendors that have good websites and sell online. What type of orchids interest you? Hausermann's Orchids is where I do most of my online orchid shopping. They have nice Phals, Cattleyas, and a variety of other orchids, including species. Some are young orchids a few years from blooming while others are blooming size (they usually indicate this). They are in Chicago and have been in business a long time. I buy small Cattleyas (and a nice Encyclia) from Sunset Valley Orchids. They also have Catasetum. These are usually not clones so the results can be hit or miss. I have some nice orchids from there. Ecuagenera and Andy's orchids both have a wide variety of orchids that many other vendors do not have. I have bought from both in the past and gotten healthy orchids. If you do not mind a hundred dollar minimum, Exotic Orchids of Maui ships healthy but usually very young orchids. I have bought from them in the past. Some of the other vendors I have used have closed. |
I satisfy 99% of my addiction by mailorder. Hauserman's, Krull-Smith, and Sunset Valley Orchids are my constant suppliers. All three are tremendous.
If an orchid arrives damaged, I immediately send a picture of the orchid, the packing material, and the invoice. All three suppliers have either refunded $ or sent a replacement orchid. Their customer service is tops. |
Seattle orchid is having their green house clearance sale and free shipping through the weekend. I thought you may want to know.
