Wow Marco, they look happy happy happy! You sure you can see outside with all that though?
You got some nice mottled plants, is that a Paph?

Marco 09-04-2006 07:13 PM

Nice set up Marco, my husband changed mine all around from a set up similar to yours on a table to metal shelves.... They do look ":D :D :D " What is the light duration on your chids.

Oscarman 09-05-2006 03:34 PM

Marco, looks like a multiple shelves on that window won't be too far away! ;)

Your plants look very happy in S/H, have you had any negative experiences yet? Are you using Prime-Agra or a different expanded clay?

Marco 09-05-2006 06:54 PM

Thanks Cheryl and Dave :)

Cheryl - The lights are on 12-14 hours a day + direct eastern exposure for about 3 hours in the morning.

Dave - yup have 2 negative experiences when I first started

1) not running plain water through the medium. resulted in mineral build up and root loss

2) not allowing the prime agra to drain excess water into the well. resulted in root rot. I think the excess water in the pellets didn't allow the media to wick properly

Alright well, I won't be around in the chat rooms that much anymore. I've been trying to avoid responsibility at work by running this sweet 3 day weekend schedule. I got pulled in by 2 partners in the past 2 weeks about "when I'm taking my test and when I'm going to start full time". The staggered schedule and too care free mentality of college life is meant to expire eventually. :_(

I'll be popping my head in and out every now and then though with pictures if any paphs ever decide to bloom on me. :poke:

Seriously, reality bites.

justatypn 09-05-2006 08:05 PM

Reality does bite, unfortunately we can't escape it. gl to u. Am sure we will be seeing your pictures soon it's amazing with reality time flying goes hand and hand ... we'll see your blooms before you know it.

Nice Marco. I had the same experience with salt buildup and root/leaf die back when i was using the hand sprayer to water. It was not leaching enough and the salts built up to toxic levels. I'm glad I realized it before i lost my plants.

Marco, just wait till retirement! Then you'll have evcen less time
