Zygopetalum hybrid.
 

We have this orchid and it hasn’t endured a house move very well.

Can it be saved? If so, any advice would be gratefully received.

It looks dead. When you squeeze the pseudobulbs, are they soft or firm?

I fear this is a goner.

Zygos are pickier about conditions inside a home than are many other orchids. You should be able to grow them but do some reading here before replacing it.

I agree, that plant is very much dead. That Oncidium type in the background however looks like quite a large healthy plant!

The ’dead one’ was a part of an orchid retirement gift set to a friend (who hated them) and shifted them on to us within days.

We have some others that my ’late’ Uncle put in his sadly long time depared wife’s room. He wasn’t interested in looking after them and just replaced them. We took on the ailing orchids and they now seem to be thriving.

My SWMBO seems to have a good touch with the orchids and I do like them. What is not to like?

What a shame that it is a ’goner’. I was hoping that ’having it off at the ankles’ might cause the roots to kick into action or there was some wonder cure. Oh well, nothing lasts forever.

That was the question the immediately came to me. If they are firm, then it's possible to revive it.

We have 10 orchids (I think). Most are supermarket purchases that look very nice but I don’t suppose that they are anything special.

Then we had 3 ’pass ons’ that were a leaving gift for a friend and they were a bit more ...... special.

I shall have feel of the maybe-dead’s bits tonight to see if they are soft or firm.

Hard to say as I’m not an experienced squeezer. Not really soft but getting firmer towards the middle?

even if there was anything left in that one which there isn't it couldn't recover. It's past the point of saving it
