Phalaenopsis lobbii f. flavilabia
Here's a great Phalaenopsis species: Phal lobbii f. flavilabia.
It's one of the cool growing, deciduous species, found in mountainous regions of India, China, Vietnam. It gets disctinctive seasons, with a cool, dry winter, and a hot monsoonal summer. As one of the deciduous Phal, it thrives under fairly bright light. Needs 60+% humidity or will flat out refuse to bloom, and the spikes take FOREVER to grow - usually in late winter or spring. Lobbii makes up for it by having a flush of deliciously fragrant flowers over several weeks/months. Smells like a mix of Lily of the valley and very sweet citrus to me. It's considered a miniature species, but a happy specimen will grow basal shoots and will become a bush. This plant comes from an Indian strain, and its parents are of normal colour (brown and not yellow); the label color is highly variable in this species. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...f1e6968d_k.jpgIMG_0140 https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...4ac92958_k.jpgIMG_0159 |
