Den.nobile 'spring dream apollon' watering.

Hey everyone!

I just received a Den. nobile and it is in flower as we speak. I know they need a winter rest to rebloom but shouldn't it be in rest now and not flowering yet?

Do I water it as if it was in a growing phase or keep it pretty dry until spring?

It has new growth at the bottom.
:)

If there's a new growth, water it.

They are tricked to flower at any time of year by manipulating temperatures. Yours thinks it's early spring. Let it grow this winter, spring and summer. Stop fertilizing in August. It should flower again in spring 2023.

If you search Orchid Board for Yamamoto Dendrobiums you will find links to growing and flowering information for these.

Ah, thank you!

I knew they were manipulated into blooming, I was just thinking I must still give them a rest period.

The grower cut off old canes so I'm expecting a smaller new cane for next year. It is just a singular 40cm cane.

I have Orchid Focus 'grow' fertiliser. Should I fertilize from now to August 2022? I know weakly weekly is recommended mostly.

The instructions say to carry on fertilizing through winter at half the dose which would be 1ml/liter.
Then again my nobiles are vey late to develop this year so might be time for me to lay off the fertilzer a bit and see what is up. Mine should have produced some buds already by now.
Last year I was fertilzing at the half dose suggested and had great blooms but this year I think they are doing so well I should have reduced fertilizer sooner.
For your situation I would focus on the new growth so yeah I'd still fertilize at the half dose they recommend then next year in autumn either reduce it or leave it away completely.

Don't cut any, unless they are brown and dry. These guys bloom from older canes mainly.
