Phalaenopsis fuscata
2 Attachment(s)
hi all,
decided to start this thread as a new grower of this species. and excited because today i noticed some tiny growth from a dormant node on an old spike! the plant was received as a keiki and part of a small group order and arrived in great condition. it came with a section of the spike it grew on, and also had grown its own inflorescence which had been cut but was still attached with several nodes. tons of roots! but all had nice green growing tips when we got it, so it was put straight away into the usual bark, leca, sphag mix and placed close to the south window but shaded and down low. i have been spraying the exposed roots since we got it just to help it ease into the transition and so far it seems happy! some info / links for the species for anyone interested: IOSPE PHOTOS Travaldo's blog: Grow and care Phalaenopsis fuscata orchid - Darkened Phalaenopsis Phalaenopsis fuscata http://www.orchidboard.com/community...s-fuscata.html it’d be great if you other growers of the species would share your plants/pics as they are now! |
Edit - deleted post as I was talking about fasciata and not fuscata!

id like to see how others are doing with that one as well.... |
Did you order a kapuaensis too? Because I'd love to start a thread on that one. It has done NOTHING, it's like it was a fake plastic plant or something. Meanwhile, the Phal pallens seedlings that I deflasked in the same week have grown new roots and new leaves in that time...

I do not grow this one, but the plants in the Fuscatae section (fuscata, viridis, cochlearis and kunstleri) are easy.
Hot to intermediate temperatures, do good in low light. The only problem you might face is bud blast if the plant isn't established, they like it very very moist. Do yourself a favour and find a copy of Christenson's Phalaenopsis Monograph, it's full of helpful info! |

The books I recently found out and want real bad are the colouring and painting guides from Kew Gardens. I can't draw to save my life, but damn those botanical watercolours make me want to try. 403 Forbidden Quote:
I wish, but girlfriend and bank account do not agree. |
