Hello! I realize I've been signed up for a almost a year but have never posted in the intro section.

I'm a hobby grower from the Wash., DC area. I like anything with a fragrance. I've been growing cacti for years, but have added orchids into the mix relatively recently. Big fan of Oncidium/Zygopetalum/Catasetum types. Did I mention I like those with fragrances?

Attached is my current obsession: Miltonia Kismet 'Kind Kai'. Absolutely love the way it smells

Welcome.

What part of the DC area? I went to Jr. & Sr. High in DC, and my wife lived in Camp Springs, near Andrews AFB.

Welcome.

FWIW I like cacti and orchids too. I find it amusing that there are jungle growing epiphytic cacti that you can treat much like orchids should be treated. My Epiphylum oxypetalum responds well to being potted like a warm growing Phalaenopsis and given light like a Dendrobium Phal type. Sometimes when the sun is hot i use it as a sunscreen for my phals.

I have my Cattleya and Dendrobium seedlings growing underneath my cactus display. Works well when it rains because they get the run off and I don't have to worry about getting the cacti wet when watering the orchids
