Phyton question
Ok so I've never bought phyton because it is very expensive here.
But having encountered this problem before and just checking the ingredients sometimes the same product can be bought a lot cheaper. So I checked and the ingredients seem to be 20% copper sulphate pentahydrate. This stuff is readily available and a fraction of the price. So can I just make my own fungicide by adding 20% into a spray bottle? Guess I will go find out! But this seems too easy. Has anyone else considered it before? Found a guide on the right dosage: https://www.hunker.com/13406855/how-...as-a-fungicide |
What is Phyton? Do you mean Physan 20?
|
Yes, you can make a 20% solution, but you must dilute it further, to the recommended level, before application.

Gracias jcec1... I googled it, and got nothing...what a difference adding a number makes. Not really up to speed on knowing chemicals.

Bordeaux mixture is a copper dormant spray sold for horticulture in the US. I'd have to read about concentration and dilution.

so yes as a warning the stuff is super poisonous.
It needs to be highly diluted. Even phyton 27 (sry about leaving out the 27) I will try making my own in future but I do wonder if it will be exactly the same or maybe good but not as good? Worth considering and it needs to be handled very carefully. Also it is still super strong stuff and should only be applied to affected parts on the plant. |
So what plant are you applying it to? Curious… I just never end up using stuff like that.

I use Copper Oxychloride Fungicide for the orchids after heavy rain or after a long period of rain and humidity (Here we have a very humid winter) and then Phyton 27 for the garden, that acts inside the plant and directly on the cell wall of fungi and bacteria that affect roots, foliage, flowers and fruits in vegetables. I have apply Phyton to Catts only.
