Hi from Kassel, Germany!

Hi everyone :)

My name is Alya and I came from Indonesia but I´ve been moving and now living and studying in Kassel, Germany. Back then in my Hometown a lot of people sell Orchids for a really cheap price and even my mom's friend has a whole wall of her Backyard filled with mounted Orchids but unfortunately, back then, I wasn't interested in orchids that much.
Last July I saw a Phal. Orchid abandoned on the Balcony of my Apartment so...after losing my Snake plant and succulent, I thought taking it in and repotting it was a great idea. Well oh boy it did, since then I got obsessed with Orchid and got 2 more Phals and 1 Dendrobium on Clearance in a Gartenmarkt and Ikea.
I´m so new to Orchid and until now I only watch Miss Orchid Girl Videos as Guidance. But I feel like there's so much more than I don't know.

I hope here I can learn more about Orchids and addressing problems.

Anyway, thanks for having me here!
Alya

welcome.
there is a lot to learn and know, more than some university degrees teach but you don't need to know it all, only that phals are sensitive to fertilizer salts, get sunburnt easily and need an airy mix like bark over soil are the most important things to know to keep one going.

They can be challenging to figure out initially but once one has they do seem to thrive on a bit of neglect once in a while.

I read recently that snakes are the most resilient creature because they can go a whole year without food. An orchid can't quite go that long without water but they are tougher than most other plants. More sensitive in some regards but if they get all they need they can be surprisingly tough. I was always put off trying to grow them when I was younger thinking they are very fragile and difficult to understand. As one learns more they become less mysterious over time and more interesting.

Welcome Alya! I´m a bit jealous...I´m pretty sure that in Indonesia you could see some incredible plants, but hey! Germany has some of the best nurseries and sellers in Europe, so not that bad!
I totally get you...when I saw I could keep an Ikea phal and make it bloom again every year, I wanted more and more...
