The Miniature of miniatures

Here are some in situ pics of Bulbophylllum minutissimum. One of the smallest orchids in the world (probably the smallest). Pseudobulbs measureing 3 millimetres across. I found this orchid by accident :) Its not really something that's easy to look for. See if you can see the flowers.

Wow, that almost hurts the eyeballs. I think I saw some in the first pic. Not the second....still all buds. Am I right? :)

If I'm seeing correctly, there are 2 flowers at about 12:00 and 5:00 on the right half of the first picture, and two almost side-by-side at about 1:00 and 2:00 in the second?

That is absolutely amazing!

Cheers.

My, my, my, those are tiny! Think I spotted the flowers........

OrchidLover1982 04-21-2008 06:06 AM

I can count 4 flowers in the first pic and 2 in the second pic. Small single reddish coloured flower about the same size as the pseudobulbs.

When i say bulbs 3 millimetres across that is maximum. some are smaller. When they are in the sun they turn a reddish colour like the flowers but when they are a bit more shady the bulbs are green. These ones were in a very sunny position growing on mangroves. I have also seen this species growing on rocks once with a thin layer of moss.

Anybody have a source for these in the US? I would love to grow some of that out. I also hear that they do well in the vivarium.

Very cool. This is exactly why Bulbophyllum is one of my most favorite of generas across all life forms.

AWESOME...but I think I went blind for a moment trying to spot the flowers

Amazing, I've heard of that plant but never seen a photo of it. Thanks for sharing something a bit special.
