High light orchid recommendations
 

I had a Dendrobium Nobile on my windowsill that has unfortunately suffered from scortch (as well as some pests which are almost treated). However, I want a plant that will replace it and I'll move the Dendrobium elsewhere. I know Cymbidium's can take a lot of light for example but they're a bit large for just a windowsill, which to be honest the Dendrobium was too.

Any high light suggestions would be great!

It's not just high light. When sun strikes plants it heats them. The plant retains the heat, and is cooked.

In nature air circulation may carry away the heat. In most houses there isn't a large amount of air circulation. If you aim a fan on your Dendrobium in the window it will probably be fine. The air circulation will carry away the heat and keep the plant at ambient room temperature. You can put the fan on a timer.

To see what would happen, I have put Cattleya seedlings outside in full sun, with a fan on them. They were undamaged at 105 F / 40C. I got worried after that and brought them in.

Laelia anceps

or Maxillaria Tenuifolia

possibly a Cattleya Jewel Box or a simlilar sophronitis heavy hybrid

also maybe a Neostylis Lou Sneary.

I am basing this on similar temperatures that a Nobile can handle so cold dip in winter and high light requirement, they can all handle Nobile light or higher.

LR ------ how about a Dendrobium speciosum?

The first two suggestions are big plants, even bigger than a Den nobile which the OP says is already too large for the location.

The Neostylis could be a good option, or any of the other Neofinetia x Vanda hybrids. They stay compact and can handle high light.

Longroots- you could consider an Ascocentrum. I think they can take full sun (especially at our latitudes) , and many of them are rather small plants.
