Does this look like rot?

Because I'm so new to orchids, I don't really know what to look for as far as basal rot goes. I got kinda scared when my Phalaenopsis lost two leaves. They just kinda shriveled up and fell off. I know that Phals lose their leaves sometimes when new ones grow, I've just never experienced it.

The plant itself is fine, the other leaves are still healthy. It;s in bloom, and the flowers show no signs of stress. No wilting has occurred, and the plant has great roots. I just wanted to be sure that it's not rot, and if it is, I want to catch it as quick as I can.

Thanks :)

Don't think so.... :scratchhead: Sometimes leaves just fall off. But I have a question... do you have your phal in soil? or is it just a really fine orchid mix.....?

It's a really fine mix. It's actually the same media that I bought it in. I was going to repot soon, but I wanted to make sure that the plant didn't have rot before I replanted it.

I agree with Shams. I don't see any rot in the pics. It's perfectly natural for phals to lose bottom leaves. Sometimes it seems to happen overnight. I would definately repot it just to make sure the roots are good. If it doesn't have many healthy roots the plant will shed leaves because the roots can't support them any longer. Fine or old decomposing media is the worst for orchid roots because they simply suffocate. :_( But from the pics yours looks healthy. :goodluck: :)

If plants start losing leaves, and there Doesn't appear to be any overt reason - CHECK THE ROOTS. It could be a sign of stress there, rather than in some easy-to-see place.

Well, I took it out of it's pot, only two of many roots were in bad condition. I snipped them and sprinkled cinnamon, and put it into fresh media. Thank you all for your help and knowledge :)
