Psychopsis Repotting

2 Attachment(s)
Hello, I recently picked up a big psychopsis the other day and noticed that the media was breaking down, had algae, and that the pot was just too small. However, my plant has a developing flower spike and I do not want to harm it. Will repotting it right now harm its growth? Or should I just wait until it develops to repot? Thank you for your help

I wouldn't repot unless you absolutely have to. Psychopsis hate having their roots disturbed. Looks like you have more room to me. The media can't be too bad, the plant looks happy.

One thing to note about Psychopsis... waiting until a spike is done, can be many years (like 5 years of reblooming on an old spike is not unusual) so don't ever cut the spike until it is crispy and light brown all the way to the base. (If the top part dies, it is very likely to branch)

Clawhammer is correct... don't repot unless you absolutely have to (and if so leave the spike alone). If it is staying too wet, just water less often.

When it outgrows the pot, then just drop it into a larger one, don't try to remove old media. Again, minimizing any disturbance of the roots.
