xLaeliocattleya elegans
This is a manmade version of the natural hybrid of Laelia purpurata x Cattleya leopoldii. First bloom, quite nice. Due to the purpurata background, this hybrid sometimes has very quilled segments. THe petals are quite flat and the sepals are well-held for the hybrid. THe lip could be better, but this is first bloom... ALso, I tore the lip a little, in the process of taking pics. There is a second spike on the plant, so I will try to get a better shot of a not-torn flower.

Cj, are you sure it is not Lc. Schilleriana? The central purple line is very characteristic trait C. intermedia passes on, allied to the general appearance of the flower, especially the lip. Here' a link to (just a random link) Lc. Schilleriana http://kojimatsk.hp.infoseek.co.jp/M...na20030927.jpg and for comparison (also random) a link to Lc. elegans Lc. What ever it is, it is a beauty! Must hurry and buy new house so I can fit Cattleya's and of the sort into my collection!

Well, the plant, however, looks just like a purpurata. Also, the two other flowers have a much more noticeable sidelobing thing going on. But it is possible. I suppose I could send it off to be identified...
-Cj P.S. In looking at more pics, I am beginning to agree that it may be schilleriana. Hell, it was LABELED L. perrinii, soo.... |
