A couple of Leptotes
 

Here's my Leptotes bicolor - a wonderful little species. Still more flowers to open, but the first ones starting to go, so don't know if I'll get a better photo by waiting. Another one in the genus, less often seen, is Leptotes pohlitinocoi, just for variety. It grows under exactly the same conditions (filtered sun, outdoors on my patio, mounted so it dries out fast), and blooms about the same time.

Both species bloom on quite small plants. And just keep getting better. Mine grow slowly, they may grow faster with more ideal environment. (I am sure they would rather not have that winter chill, but they put up with it)

wonderful blooms! Are the blooms scented? How long do they last?

My bicolor is languishing in a pot, perhaps I will mount this like yours.

I haven't noticed a fragrance particularly. Flowers last a couple of weeks at least. I have had poor results even growing these in a basket, never tried a pot. Mounted is the only approach that works for me.

Beautiful blooms Roberta! Now that I've seen your photos, iI'm looking forward to seeing my pohlitinocoi bloom. I got it as a itty bitty seedling.

I still find it funny that I can't grow these mounted now matter how hard I try but have had amazing success with one potted. And then I see yours, so happy and thriving on a mount.

Leptotes bicolor is nicely fragrant, but only very early in the morning, in the couple hours before sunrise. Once the sky starts to get light the fragrance starts decreasing. The only reason I know this is that I get up at 6am to get ready for wwork!

Both of your plants look excellent, Roberta. And I really like the mounts--especially since I have a skill for killing anything that I've ever tried to grow mounted (just can't keep them watered well enough, I think). Congratulations on the colorful flowers.

In the last available orchid list from my main vendor there's a bicolor and also unicolor.

Same 2 as yours Roberta that I'm waiting for delivery. My attempt mounted didn't work. Recently read a post from Sara Jean of her success with them(or 1) in pot of s/m so that's my plan. Yours look lovely!

Camille, no wonder I missed the fragrance... I'm definitely not an early riser.

I'm blessed with a good climate and general environment for mounted orchids - they do get a daily bath, and in hot weather, 2 or 3 times a day. On the other hand, potted things tend to stay more damp. Sprinkler system... Indoors, that's impossible to maintain without a terrerarium. But if potted and have a chance to dry out, that accomplishes the same thing. I think that bright light + drying out are the important factors.

I just took a look, found Lpt. unicolor with a bunch of buds. I think another few weeks and I'll see that one. (Mine is hot pink, it comes in a color range to light pink and white)
