Calling the Aussies

Hi
Im sure some members of the forum will know the Eastern states of Australia are having some serious flooding.

Just checking in with members in the flooded areas to see how they are faring.

I am not an Aussie (I reside in the USA), but I have friends who reside in Queensland. They did mention to me about the recent rains/flooding they had been experiencing during a telephone call. Also of interest during our conversation... they talked about an explosion of mice in the area. Not sure where you are located in Australia. Are you also experiencing the same (flooding & mice)?

I hadn't heard of this latest disaster to hit Australia... I'm hoping for the best all those affected, mother nature isn't kind to Australia. Isn't this the same region that has been affected by a rodent plague of biblical proportions?

Hi Diane

Need to rescued some Tillandsia as the roof is leaking. My stags, elks & orchids are loving it!

We are on the SE QLD coast. We seem to get more rain here than most.

We have had around 450mm or a foot & a 1/2 of rain so far. It is still coming at us here full-on. Can not remember the last good rain we have had.

Weather pattern looking from SE QLD is there is a huge southern low pressure system cradled by 2 huge high pressure systems and a tropical low that looks like it is still converging together to form a cyclone that could be an issue for our coast line still at present.

From what I have heard via the news the mouse plague seems to be just ahead of the flooding. Hopefully the colder wet weather will kill them off.
Flooding in Southern Queensland, NSW and the rain now heading South to Victoria.

"Land of sweeping plains
Drought and flooding rains"

Indeed!

Luckily Im in South Australia. No rain or mice.....YET!
I remember some years ago we had a mouse plague here, a friend who lived north of the city opened her front door to let some cooler evening air in the house and the screen door was covered top to bottom with mice!
Thankfully the mice were on the outside of the door.

If its not one thing, its another! Lets hope that doesn't turn into a cyclone. You could do without another Yasi.

Channel 9 weather lists 41 warnings about flooding listing numerous rivers and creeks along with a dozen or more separate warnings about severe thunderstorms and generally wild weather!

if they had a rodent problem that won't be a problem anymore.

I don't think I will ever forget seeing a couple's entire house peacefully floating down a river as their neighbours filmed the whole thing - as I saw on the news.

I saw videos of mouse throngs taken this year in Australia. Glad I'm not there right now. The ground is moving!

Have talked to people that have been in mouse plagues in western QLD. They all lived in extreme poverty in those farming communities. The ground would move with so many mice at weeks on end. They would come at you in numbers. Even their beds would be covered with mice as they slept..... They start eating you from the corners of the mouth ... That is all I will share....
