Orchid Display

Hello.
This is an idea that has been lingering on my mind lately and I hope I can enlist your help.
I think I'm gonna make an "orchid display" as a project.
Similar to a butterfly display (I think that's what they're called, everyone has seen them; real butterflies framed in glass).
I have no idea how to preserve the orchids in some way such that they don't wither much and they gain a bit of hardness.
I was wondering whether I can use epoxy resin or something similar to preserve them?
I'm open to ideas and suggestions, I'll also be posting as the idea goes forward here.
Thanks for reading!

Sounds like an interesting idea. Do you plan on preserving the entire plant, or just the flowers? I had a neighbor that raised a lot of roses, and grew-out many new hybrids as "a tester" for Jackson & Perkins (before J&P would put them on the market).

He had a display (glass case that hung on a wall) showcasing many of his rose flowers. I have no idea how he preserved those flowers. It was a very attractive display and definitely caught your attention.

Maybe you could talk with someone at a museum in your area and ask if they know how to preserve plants/flowers (long term) for a display.

The 'preserving thing' sparked my interest, so I took the easy route (google is sometimes your friend) and found a link that talks about preserving rose flowers. It might be worth a read, and maybe it could also apply to orchids.

Hey, I plan on cutting the flowers from a reasonable distance but as close to the flower as I can, preserving the entire plant would be a bit harder and also unnecessary, also I would lose one of my beloved Psychopsis, which I really really don't want!

Your reply and the story about your neighbor makes me think at least it's possible, so it really gets me hyped, I think I'll give myself a week or so as a reasonable time frame to research enough information.

I will definitely try to find someone up to speed on these matters, and I'll give your link a good, careful read, thank you!

People preserve flowers by drying in silica. You can easily find instructions.
