New cattleya for me, has spots underside of leaves-
6 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone
I went to an aroid/orchid show last Saturday in Miami and brought back a cattleya from a grower further north in Florida. When I cleaned the leaves (had water spots) I noticed some darker spots. These are underside and not on top of the leaves. Does it look like a pathogen or is it normal? The new leaves close to the blooms do not have any spots at all. Thanks for any input! also it is a hybrid. I attach a photo of the name and hybrid. |
Could be a couple of things, but to me it looks like damage done by small, sucking insects (i.e. thrips or scale). I suspect this one may have had a good sized infestation in the recent past. I'd nuke it with your favorite pest control agents a few times and keep it away from your collection until you've hit it several times.

In the future examine the plants carefully, and don't buy plants that look like this.
