My favorite Cattleya species, so I have a few. The photo shows two of them, currently in bloom.
On the left 'A-Doribil' FCC/AOS, which was awarded in 2006. In the description, the judges made a note of the color ('exceptional form and color for the species'). This plant grows PBs to 12"+. On the right 'Fair Orchids Shorty', a plant I bought from Miranda about 2 years ago, as an unbloomed seedling. The parentage was shown as ('Morumby' x 'Rubra'). I do not know what 'Morumby' looks like, but 'Rubra' indicates a dark (sometimes reddish) color. While Shorty won't win any AOS awards (flower is too small), the lip is far superior to 'A-Doribil', and it is a much darker flower. Since it grows very compact (no PB over 5.1/2"), and super vigorous, I am using it for breeding now. |
They're both excellent. Miranda has some great cattleya species listed (even though they're all rather pricey for such small seedlings). I like the cross that you purchased from him. In addition to the superior lip, I also find the color to be more attractive than the A-Doribil clone. Congrats on the blooms.
