Rhyncholaelia glauca

This is probably one of my favorite plants! Such a great species. My latest video is about this one: Show & Tell- Rhyncholaelia glauca - YouTube

Fantastic, and an impressive flowering, Steve. Lots of leads! But the plant looks like it may be tired of that pot and is slowly evicting itself (or maybe it just doesn't like you and is telling you that it would be happier living with someone farther north!). Does your set-up allow you to mount it? It looks like it would be an excellent candidate for mounting. Congratulations. It's quite attractive.

Thanks! Yes, this one is certainly walking out of its pot. My summers are too hot for mounts, which is why I have to grow so many of my "mountable" Catts in clay pots with orchiata. I'd have to water 2-3x per day if it was mounted!

I suspect a piece of this could certainly wander north, if desired!

Excellent example of the species. How big are the flowers?

Beautiful example of this species and very nicely flowered.

I haven't measured them, but they're probably 2/3 the size of my hand (i.e. palm and fingers). I add my hand behind the flowers in the video for reference.

Thank you!

Thanks for the offer to send a piece of the plant, Steve. But I really was just kidding you. I have two plants of my own already--nowhere near as full and impressive as yours, but this gives me something to aspire to. Plus, with all of those growths, your plant is well on its way to becoming an excellent specimen. So why not keep it together as one plant? Thanks again!

Beautiful plant Steve! I never heard of this species before now, and it really is very nice.

One of my favorites. Love the scent!

Thank, all!! It's definitely a favorite of mine!

I haven't measured, but I would guess around 10cm. I'll try to remember and get a more exact measurement later today.

Ha! No worries! I cut a pretty big piece off a year or so ago and it grew back pretty quickly. I'll keep it growing as a specimen until it gets unwieldy!
