Conjoined leaves
 

Hello everyone!
I have a 3 year old mini phalaenopsis that my mom gave me that has produced conjoined leaves. (See photos) They are currently a little over an inch long and I’m just not sure what to do about it. It seems to be a relatively happy orchid, currently producing its 4 spike with well over 16 buds on a main spike with 2 offshoots. So the question is what to do about the conjoined leaves. My concern is if I leave it, it will not be able to produce other leaves. Do I try to split it to give room for the next set to grow? Has anyone else encountered this issue? I’m happy to leave it to see how it grows, but I just thought I’d ask.

I'm not an expert, but I'd leave it to see what it does. It looks like the previous leaves developed normally. It won't hurt anything to do nothing.

Thank you. I was mostly curious if anyone had a similar experience as I tried to search it and came up with nothing. It will be interesting to see how it grows out.

I have one that put out a leaf fused into a tube. After that it stopped pushing leaves from the crown and shot off a side growth instead. It didn’t seem to miss a beat despite the change in growth.

I haven't come across that situation before. But I wouldn't consider it an 'issue'.

I think that new sprouts will just develop in future. And nothing that is already a part of the orchid will get in the way.

Plants occasionally put out parts that didn't develop normally. It usually doesn't happen again.
