THRIPS!!!! on phals.
While watering my orchids, I noticed a speck of "dust" move. I've spent the day searching and found out that it is a thrip. My Phalaenopsis are in spike and bud. What should I do?

I suggest you go to the burgundy search bar at the top and type in "thrips." Do you want to use chemicals, all natural, etc?
To ease your panic, spray with warm, soapy, water. Add a few drops of alcohol. Then select from the methods presented. |
Thrips
Thank you so much for your reply. I spent all day yesterday researching the nasty things and this morning took each plant and used a loupe to check them. I saw NO insects of any kind. I know what I saw yesterday and will keep checking. For now I'll use some soap and water. Again thank you

If you have access to some Bayer Three in One, buy a bottle to have on hand. If you prefer all natural, buy Neen oil. But, have something on hand just in case...

There may not be many. You saw what you saw. Dish soap may not kill eggs. Treat again at 4-5 day intervals for several applications, even if you don't see any more. They damage buds too early in development for us to notice.
