Vuylstekeara Carnival 'Rio' in bloom

Bought this plant 29th October this year (2020) and it was a lovely surprise to find a well developed spike. A few days later a second spike showed up.
It started a new growth mid November, and the blooms just started opening over the weekend.
The blooms are lacking a specific direction to say the least!

Sweet. That looks like how candy should taste

It is a very pretty thing, no fragrance so far. I hope the blooms present a bit better next time.

Very pretty. Are you going to repot after these blooms are done?

Diane56Victor 12-08-2020 05:32 PM

Most likely. Probably the ideal time with new growth taking off.

Yes it does look wet but its not.
It's what it arrived in, very small bark and perlite and what looked like those time release fertilizer balls with a very dark green moss on top.

Normally I would have repotted once I saw the new growth had started, but because the spikes, and then the truckloads of roots around the bottom of the pot looking good I thought I would leave it till after the blooms finish.

BUT.....if the blooms look like lasting longer than a month I will be repotting regardless of the blooms or the second spike. I will pot up in small Orchiata.

Unless anyone thinks I should bite the bullet right now.

I would not repot until finished flowering and there are clear signs of new root growth.
