Flowers that die well AND some that DONT
I have been contemplating this thread in my head for a while and i am eager to see what other people think or have to offer.
Some orchids last a long time and others seem to disappear into the air overnight. for the ones that have longevity some decay into beautiful other colors and wilt in a graceful fashion while others turn into soggy handkerchiefs here are a few of the flowers i have found age and die well https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d56f34c1_c.jpgUntitled by J Solo, on Flickr on the way out https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...330fa2fd_c.jpgFinally! by J Solo, on Flickr new https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d9a0f325_c.jpgFinally! by J Solo, on Flickr and some not so pretty catts. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...bd85ca7f_c.jpgFinally! by J Solo, on Flickr i would love to see the flowers you enjoy all the way out |
Nice topic DC. I don't have a picture of it, but I have a cattleya that doesn't last long; each time it blooms it literally dries perfectly in place, with color yet faded, like someone preserved it. It's been a NOID for quite some time.

that is exactly what i am talking about!! get pics next time, for sure

And then there are some that die and drop looking like they are still in their prime. Phrags do that... a perfect phalling Phrag phlower...sometimes I float them in a dish with a bit of water, to enjoy them one or two more days.

Love this thread, DC! I have found that my Paphs preserve beautifully, but don't retain any color. However check out this Cattleya maxima that bloomed for me in September. It dried perfectly just stuck to the refrigerator, even retained some color and fragrance! Might have to do with our super low humidity...the pigments didn't have time to dissolve!

Insane!!
I find that if you can find the beauty in ALL the phases of nature then you win because you can enjoy a lot more. It like a wide palate or liking a lot of music or having a broad sense of humor, you get to be happy a lot more. Roberta, you are dead on. I have a phrag dried in a Hoya in my bathroom. At least five months old. Far from perfect but it has the right shapes and forms. Amazing! |

This thing fell off my plant this morning and it surprisingly held itself together.
