Orchids by Hausermann - to buy or not to buy (for now)?
 

I was recently thinking of placing an order from Hausermann's, especially since it's getting colder and I wouldn't want to receive a box of frozen plants, but at the same Black Friday is approaching. Do they have a Black Friday sale? If not, I'll probably order now. If they do, is the wait worth the risk?

I've ordered from Hausermann's for some years now. You never know what kind of sale they will have. You never know when it will become too cold to ship from Chicago. You never know how long the cold weather will last. Some years there are warm spells here and there through the winter, and they will ship. Other years it gets cold early, and stays too cold to ship until April. So I'm asking you... Are you feeling lucky?

They are careful about shipping. They won't ship if they don't think the box will get to you safely; they will hold the order. That might be many months! They always have a link to current shipping conditions at the top of their Web page.

They sell out of a lot of new things quickly. Other things are almost always in stock. And realize they sell a lot of things not listed on their Web page. If you want something, call and ask. They sometimes still have things that were recently listed on their Web page but are no longer shown.

For example, they have sold Bulbophyllum phalaenopsis seedlings on and off through the years. They were on the Web page this fall. When I went to order, they were not there. I called. They told me that batch was sold out, but more would be big enough to pot up soon, and would probably be on the Web site sometime in December. Of course, by that time they might have stopped shipping for the winter.

So if it's something they carry all the time, you can wait. If it's something in the New section, it might sell out soon. Some of the plants I bought in late October from the What's New section are no longer in stock.

I looked through my old emails, and I have nothing from previous years about a Black Friday sale at Hasuermann, so I'm thinking they probably don't have one.

That being said, Hausermann pays very close attention to the weather in their own area, as well as the weather where they are sending the plants, and if the weather is not acceptable in either place, they will hold your plants until it is, so I think there is no danger in ordering now, or if you want to wait until Black Friday and see if they have their first ever Black Friday sale, you can certainly wait, and if the weather is not good for shipping, they will wait until it is.

I think you have nothing to lose either way, and an order form Hausermann is always the right choice.
