Best Rhyncholaelia digbyana hybrids
 

Hello all,

I am curious about the best hybrids with the digbyana as an immediate parent. I have seen a few of these like Rlc. Mrs J Leeman and digbyano-mossiae and I think they are absolutely stunning.

What are some other good hybrids like this. Bonus points if they have a picotee and are very colorful.

you are always thinking what I am thinking. Maybe great minds think alike as I was just thinking the digbyana is a smell I need to add but would be too big.

The most famous cross of the digbyana from my research is the Rlc Ports of Paradise.

This is still a relatively big Cattleya and problematic for my climate is the warm growing temperatures - probably less for you.

I did discover a new cross recently that is being sold by orchidgarden called Rlc Prapa Green which is slightly smaller but still a big Cattleya.

I have found another nice looking cross but I know too little about the parents to get this one - yet.
It is a small and cool grower crossed with the digbyana so should be what I am looking for but I just got the parent instead first (since it is small and cool growing) the Rhyncholaelia Glauca. Crossed with the digbyana it gives you a Brassavola (rhyncholaelia) Aristocrat.

If you aren't already, be sure to grow the species digbyaba.

'best hybrids' probably does require definition of 'best'. Crossing just produces more variety in the orchid world. All fantastic in themselves. Growers are after something particular or new, so just keep crossing ...... so we arrive at all the results we have today, that keeps building all the time.

Ports of Paradise has been used to get results like Rlc. Ports of Paradise x Rlc. Meadow Morn ----- one of them is Rlc. Sung Ya Green 'Dragon King'.

Just a small correction, digbyana is also a Rhyncholaelia now (has been for quite awhile) so it's Rhyncholaelia Aristocrat. The "B" in the floofy-lipped Blc's is actually Rl. digbyana, reflected in the genus name changes that we all love to hate.

I have a really nice large one I got from Waldor orchids at a show a few years ago.

I think what best describes what I am looking for is a very frilly/fringed lip (direct digbyana parentage is usually needed for this) along with a generally colorful flower.

This colorful flower would preferably be a pink or yellow flower with a different color inside the lip. I also am obsessed with picotee. I have noticed that some digbyana individuals have a reddish-pink color in the flowers as a picotee. I wouldn’t mind knowing which clones did that.

I have Cattleya intermedia X Rhl (Brassavola or whatever) digbyana = Cordelia

This is one of my first orchids from 15 years ago, bought from Orchids Amore - but I think he just went by "Jerry" back then.
I don't remember how many psuedobulbs it had back then, but it was healthy and continues to be healthy. Mounted on a large chunk of wood, has several dozen or more pseudo bulbs (I'm not counting), with and without leaves. Blooms every spring. Flowers are pale pink/lavender and greenish, then mature to mostly pale lavender, bit of a frilled lip, scented lightly lemon-sweet. Take temps from low 40sF to above 90F without complaining. Full sun in the summer. My only complaint is that it does not bloom in time for winter orchid shows. Well, can't have everything, but I'll definitely take reliable.

I also have Rhynchovola Jiminy Cricket - digbyana X Brassavola nodosa, which took a very long time to bloom, but now throws out spikes a couple times a year. Also hardy.
