New, and a sucker for a mistreated orchid...

:hello , my name is Julie, but I sometimes go by Jehannette and I live in Central Florida. I am a retail garden center lurker...I dig orchids out of bad situations, buy em cheap, and nurse em back to health. I use orchid mix, 6" pots, and they all get grown outside, hanging from a tree in my front yard (I can watch em bloom from my kitchen window).

Mostly dendrobiums and Phalanopsis...I leave the vandas to my mom, who grows em over a koi pond.

I have been given another variety, a terrestrial, and am waiting until I am further along in my landscaping before I choose where to plant it. It is orange, and has smaller leaves and flowers.

I am very happy for any tips or advise that anyone has.

Julie

What a good idea. Think of all those unblooming, overwatered, castaway, specimens we could be saving!:!:

Julie's orchid Rescue

Yeah...my $9 investment plus pots & orchid mix last year have given me 3 phalenopsis, one purple, one white/purple, and one yellow/purple. It is sort of like christmas...a whole bunch of times...

Its like Christmas when I see the first healthy roots peaking up at me...

And its sure like Christmas when I first see what color they are going to be

And again, Christmas when I get to look at the blooms for more than a month.

An investment of a six-pack or so of home brew got me an epidendron from a friend...

They make me very, very happy.

Pictures might take me a while, but I'll get on that.

Julie,
You sound like you have it bad. Remember, it is a healthy addiction. ;)
