Prevention in Florida

So I finally moved my tiny orchid collection outside because I felt like they were not enjoying inside despite my attempts at modifying the environment. Also needed to make room for my growing AV collection...I really need to learn self-control.

I now have them potted in bark and moss, mounted on a trellis in our screened (but holey) pool deck under the awning. They receive indirect light and are out of the rain.

I have two NOID (I'm fairly certain) phals and a baby Den. Kinganium.

I am checking multiple times a day and I have seen no new ailments or critters, but I would like to start a prevention regiment geared towards FL.

Any advice?

I am pretty much looking at you DirtyCoconuts , as I know you are near where I live, just a bit further south.

As recently as today DirtyCoconuts mentioned that prevention also involves wrangling/killing a lot of spike devouring invasive lizards... So that's probably one thing to look out for!

Your best preventive actions should be fixing the “holey” enclosure. Allowing pests easy access then wondering how to prevent them from doing damage is extra effort (assuming you’re considering the use of pesticides), expense and pollution.

I’m here to help.

Close up the room/area as best you can. That is key

Are you growing any food or do you have pets?

Keep in mind that outside is wild. So there will be ants and spiders and good lizards. They are almost impossible to avoid but you don’t have to.

Close up the room and you’ll be okay
