How to Garden Phos? Stem Rot
 

A few helpful forum individuals recommended Garden Phos to help with possible stem rot.

The question is how do I use it? The instructions for strawberries and other crops is to mix 2 tablespoons to a gallon of water.

I have a small spray canister I can use maybe 1 or less tablespoons on to preserve a certain ratio.

This seems excessive for my smaller dying phal. I am hoping the stem may be still alive in the lower portions for a new growth despite the crown being lost.

Any advice would be appreciated.

JJC ----- for root rot or something, let's assume 2.5 TEAspoon per gallon. And according to their conversion table, this translates to

0.417 fluid ounce per gallon, which is approximately 12.3 milli-litre per gallon.

Or 12.3 milli-litre per 3.79 litre.
Or 3.24 milli-litre liquid concentrate per litre.

For most cases, it's fine to scale that 3.24 value (ml concentrate per litre of water) to the amount of water you are going to use ----- such as if you plan to supply half a litre of water, then put in roughly 1.6 milli-litre of garden-phos into 500 milli-litre (half a litre) of water.

That is, for W = 0.5 litre of water we want to use, then put in x = W * 3.24 = 0.5 * 3.24 = 1.62 ml.

So approx 1.6 ml of concentrate can just be added to half a litre of water.

JJC - even though the state of that orchid right now appears to be unrecoverable ----- although there is always hope --- so we can just do what we can ---- some good experience will definitely be gained here. If the orchids are provided conditions that really cuts down on chances of rot issues, then we usually won't need these treatments. But always nice to have these systematic treatments on hand - just in case!

For next time: Would I just spray it all over the plant or just on the roots?

Is one treatment enough or over a few days?

JJC ---- I spray it on the leaves and stem, then let the plant dry with natural gentle air-movement.

One treatment may be all that is needed for many cases.

For your orchid right now, it looks dried up, so the chances of this one making it is slim. But that's ok. Next time 'round ------ the situation will very likely be different ----- better.
