Support wire for cattleyas
2 Attachment(s)
I used to have a large greenhouse packed with cattleyas. Got out of growing orchids for a while, and now at 70 getting back in it, to a degree.
I use Lecca or Powerton for my media. I’ve always had great luck with it vs bark. I can find the old rhizome clips, but I also had a wire that attached to the side of the pot, came up maybe 12” and came around to form a loop to hold the leads in place and gave great support. The wire could be opened and closed as needed. I used to buy them in Houston at Tea’s Nursery, but they’ve been closed. I don’t know what they call them and they are so handy. Any ideas? I tried to attach a picture, but I’m unsure of this format. Thank you! |
Welcome to the Orchid Board!
Try Orchids by Hausermann or Kelley's Corners Orchid Supply. Hausermann's ships big plants in bud with those wire supports you show. |
Dma ------ also take a google (using the images section of google) on 'orchid pot hangers'.

on great advice on this forum i learned wire wrapping and bending and make all my own such stuff now
it takes less than $50 to be able to make all the stuff one would need for a LONG time. spool of 16ga wire, spool of 12ga wire, one good pair of bending plier (optional but worth it, one side is a pole and the other side normal pliers) and a few bucks on a couple sized pieces of pipe for big bending jigs that thing is a bit complicated but you could make it ---------- Post added at 11:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:54 AM ---------- wow- at the prices on Hausermann's that is really a great deal LOL...unless you are also going to be making your own hooks, hangers and clips (as i do), just buy them LOL |

I appreciate it. I’m just getting back into cattleyas after a long hiatus. I’m reusing the ones I luckily stored and I’m about out. I only used clay pots in the old days, but now I use clear vented plastic and Hydroton media.
Have a great day! |
