Really, really pregnant... yesterday I thought maybe today would be it.... maybe tomorrow. I just hope that it comes through... last year it got a fat bud that then blasted. But I think that the plant was just too immature, it was a Santa Barbara Orchid Estate $7.50 special that I had acquired only the year before. But this year it is much better established. So stay tuned...

$7.50??? i am hanging with the wrong crowd!

what a nice set of twins i hope to see in your future.

as an aside, your growing area makes me very happy! what a paradise!!

i imagine it is a bit tough to walk through

You're on the wrong coast... at their Open Houses, Santa Barbara Orchid Estate typically has a bunch of long tables filled with neat things... seedlings, or small divisions mostly, all for $7.50 each. (It can add up, since it is impossible to stop at one...) For that price, one can indulge in a lot of "maybes" ... over the years, I have gotten some neat things. Some I have had to wait awhile for, but my usual mantra of "orchids teach patience" has paid off. Once in awhile, they'll be breaking up a larger plant and I get really lucky... those bigger pieces go fast.

Dodging around plants to see what's going on in the back (where a lot of the little mounted things live) is a bit of a challenge, but there's still always room for one more. (That's the area that gets RO) My little greenhouse is much tighter... hard to navigate without knocking things down. For tall people it's definitely a challenge (so be forewarned if you ever make it to my part of the world) but worth it. The rest of the yard is easier... the Catts, Cyms, etc.

If this old lady can manage it, you certainly can... any time!

What's Taking So Long??? OMG,just love the Stans. Got mine outside now under trees and as we all know about watching the pot...! Can't wait. ;)

Roberta 07-01-2020 10:52 AM

Aaaandnndd I am still waiting. The two buds have moved a little farther apart. I just hope it doesn't do to me what it did last year (get VERY close) and then die at the base.

DirtyCoconuts 07-01-2020 10:54 AM

my challenge with the Stans is in catching the spike forming early enough to open the pot.

I like them mounted for that but it is always a work in progress.

(makes popcorn to watch this show...)

The watched bud never opens...or so it seems.
