The Southern NY Summer has arrived.
Although lately it comes at the end of May, the New York City Metropolitan area summer has arrived just in time for the start of summer.
Looking at the weather for the week it will be between 88-94F in the daytime (71F at night) with humidity around 70%. I don’t know how the orchids feel about this weather but I don’t think many humans like it. I am beginning to think where I live might have some of the greatest variety of weather with very hot summers, cold and erratic winters, temperate autumns, and unpredictable springs. It also has the bonus of being erratic and often “unpredictable” with huge temperature and precipitation variations within even the same day. This week looks pretty consistently hot and humid though. |
A great many intermediate and warm growing orchids just love weather like that.

Don't mean to upset the apple cart but I've always felt that those of us in the NE have the most challenging conditions to grow orchids, which makes us SO happy when we're successful.

Hmmmmm..... I think Kansas has the erratic weather covered fairly well.

We need some rain here in Newburgh. The lawns look like it's the middle of August and more disturbing is the rain barrel is empty.

Normally I "rant" about the beautiful New England spring weather of 55 and rain that never seems to end until 4th of July and then..... BOOM, summer. But not this year! We've been back up here from FL since May 22 and it's been fairly warm (really warm this week) and I don't think we've had more than a total of 5 minutes of rain since we got here. Our maintenance crew here at the condo advised they weren't even going to mow this week because it's so dry. |
