Cute fuzzy watching me water

Olios giganteus is very common in Arizona. Here is one watching me watering at the bathroom sink. The phone and my hand are only a few inches from the fuzzy little thing. This is a small one.

They are known as crab spiders because when the leg is extended, that's what they look like. I enjoy them in the house because they eat other arthropods. I've never been able to get close to touching one, and never been bitten.

More on Olios giganteus.

They are cool! I never kill spiders that come into the house.

That would certainly give me the heebie-jeebies. I would gently usher it out of the house in a jar or something.

Must be hip on recent hygiene practices.

My first thought was that it looked like the Huntsman spiders we get in Australia. Then I saw in the link that is an alternative name.
In a previous house I saw a big fat one on the laundry floor and tried to shoo it out the door....big mistake!
It looked big because it was carrying thousands of babies....yuk nope nope nope!

Nope! While I do not mind spiders outside, I definitely do not like them indoors. I do not kill them, though, preferring instead to use a jar to capture them and releasing them outside. The larger the spider, the further away it gets released.
The autumn before last, I found an unusually large, hairy spider...no idea exactly what it was, but, once I caught it, I walked a few blocks away to set it free.

I read a wise man said children should be taught not to be afraid of spiders, snakes and cold water.

I just prefer critters that belong outside to be outside. I have enough critters inside...two dogs, my daughter's abandoned guinea pig, the parakeets and the cherry shrimp.

Ewww. No thanks. My truck sits outside (it's too big for the garage.) In a previous post I mentioned it had sat so long due to COVID, that my sunroof drain plugged up. This necessitated some pricey repairs. When they pulled out the back seats and carpet, they found a multitude of stink bugs between the floor and carpet pad. I keep a spotless vehicle, how you would keep them out is beyond me. But again, ewww.
