Miss labeled oncidiums! Please help lead
me to the right id. I bought two minis yesterday and looked to see if they had labels....yes they both had them.
Well, get them home and they had identical labels, knowing they are different colors....jeesh! Both have RDCM. Apple Blossom x Tolu. Elfin Star, one might be, since it is red with white spots but the other is yellow with maroon spots. I have pic's if you could help me id them or just send me in the right direction with other pictures. BTW.....this is my first post and I enjoy reading all the good info that you offer. |
Ebby, :hello :welcome:
Don't rule out the possibility that the labels might be right for both of them. I don't have a lot of experience with Oncidium types, but your plants are seedlings of a hybrid cross, and in most cases that means a lot of variation between siblings. Even to the point of being completely different colours. Just have a look at Onc. Twinkle - which comes in yellow, red, and pink forms (and probably others as well!!) - and that cross is closer to the species than yours. |
I do have a onc. pink twinkle and it is as small as my little pinky fingernail. Maybe these are just small plants and anrn't mini's.
The flowers are about 3/4 in. wide. |
