Just received a package of new Neos and found this one particularly striking. It has large thick leaves that contort a bit, as well as having even thicker darker green bands on many of the leaf margins.

It feels very elegant with a bit of whimsy. I look forward to seeing it's shape as the new growths mature. Clearly I'm drawn to some of the weirder ones.

This one is a great variety. I particularly love the way they look when they have a few growths together:

The name literally means "Green Blaze" and it certainly does have that feel about it.

Btw. The type of variegation you see in this variety is called Kon-fukurin (lit. dark green marginal variegation)

Thanks for the info, would Neo. Aojiku Higuma also have Kon-fukurin?

Due to thick leaves, I'm assuming this plant will take a little higher light, in your experience, does that bring out the marginal stripes or wash them out?

I also have a Tamakongo mutation with the same variegation named Yongcheonmun:

Mine is still very small but here's a bigger one to see its characteristics better.



And if you overlay this type of variegation on top of standard fukurin, you get a type of double variegation called sanko-nakafu. One of my favorite varieties has this kind of double variegation, Kotonoyuki:

And an interesting thing about this characteristic is that varieties that have it will usually have a corresponding flower mutation where the petals are widened in a spade-like shape that someone I know described as looking like gecko feet:

If you look at the link above with the bigger Yongcheonmun, you'll see how that flower mutation looks on a beanie type flower.



I've been told this characteristic does best in medium-low light, but I have not experimented enough with these kinds of varieties to really be sure.
