Spotted yellow phal

Got this guy off ebay for fairly cheap with no ID. Any ideas? It's pretty unique looking, imo. I would classify it as medium sized with dark green leaves.
It looks like it has sunburn on the leaves or I'm hoping that's what it is. It's spending time in it's own corner of the room until I find out. |
Beautiful flower. A lot of phals (and orchids in general) have no identity for various reasons. Once an orchid has book keeping (identity, lineage/heritage/ancestry) details lost ----- it generally will remain a no identity (a 'no i.d.').
But that's fine. I have 1 single phal orchid that has no i.d. But that's ok! I mentioned somewhere in the forums before that some mystery is very nice too. But also, there are cases where an orchid can later be identified - that's if somebody recognises it, and after something ---- such as a DNA test - is carried out, for verification. |
Hybrids are pretty impossible to ID for sure, even if the really "look like" something named. Enjoy it, is is beautiful. The lack of a pedigree is important only if it's submitted for "official" judging (such as AOS)... society ribbon judging is usually fine with Phal Unknown ...no worries.

Just a possibility: Dtps. Little Golden Leopard. My mom grabbed one from Trader Joe’s a few weeks back with a tag. Hers (and the others at the store) were all peloric which yours looks to be as well.

These post make it seem like I'm adopting a mutt. Dont worry, I'm not going to abandon it or treat it different because it's not purebred.
Just think it's kinda fun to guess what the ID could be. It's not peloric. It ended up dropping shortly after the picture, might be what you are seeing. It didnt like being repotted right after transport. |
