Brown spots
2 Attachment(s)
Anyone know what this is on my paphiopedilum? I've had it for 3/4 months and these spots are just showing up in the last few weeks. Theres one big spot on a newer leaf. And had a few on an old that came off. And noticed new spots forming on another leaf about the size of a small pea. Sun burn? It doesnt get a whole lot of light and the paph right next to it seems to be fine. I'm afraid it might be something worse. See pictures. Thanks

Hard to say for sure, but I suspect acidovorax - a.k.a. pseudomonas. If so, it is a water-borne bacterium that typically starts with a ~1/4" spot, then gets brown around it.
Remove damaged part of the leaf and treat the plant and growing area with a disinfectant like Physan or just plain bleach in water (1 oz/gal). Copper-based treatments like Phyton should cure the plant. |

Physan or bleach are topical only - killing pathogens on the surface - so you'd mix it up and spray all surfaces.
Phyton is applied the same way, but is systemic, so kills internal pathogens, as well. |
