Newbie saying 'hello'!
What an awesome site!!! I can tell I'll be visiting often. I work in a grocery store with an amazing floral department. I'm not much of a plant or flower grower but I've always wondered what all the fuss was about orchids. About 3 weeks ago, our florist was marking some things down and I saw this lovely little white flower on this gorgeous green branch and simply fell in love. She told me orchids are really not all that hard to deal with, you just have to be "in tune" to your flower and know what you're doing. So I brought my little Phal. home and am completely addicted! If I can keep her alive for at least 3 months, I'm getting another one!
Thanks for this site! |
Welcome aboard, Elise. You'll be surprised at how many of those little guys follow you home. Have fun, and don't be afraid to ask all the questions you have.

:welcome: Elise
Glad to see you on the OB :) I am sure the one phal will soon have many friends ;) Once bitten by the orchid bug, resistance is futile ... |
Welcome Elise,
You are well on your way to become addicted, especially if you have any of the following symtoms: :yikes: 1. Do you find you are spending just a little to much time on the computer researching orchids? :typing: 2. Are you asking opinions on which orchid books are most helpful? 3. Do you find some reason to walk by your orchid, just to check on progress? :dance13: 4. Do you find yourself getting a little to excited over the prospect of a bud or even a new root for that matter? :cheer: 5. Have you started to worry if your plants are getting enough light or to much? :faint: 6. Are you suffering from Orchid Envy? 7. I can go on and on, but these are some of the symptoms. John |
Orchid-itis!!!
Tee hee! Yes, I have those very symptoms and a few more! I had a nightmare a few nights ago about waking up one morning to find my orchid with no buds are all black & withered. It was horrible.
I spent about 3 hours on my day off rearranging my bedroom to accomodate the new table I bought for my precious girl. She's in a true south facing window now and seems to really like it. I do talk to her every day with the utmost sincerity. helpppppmeeeeee!!!! |
Hi Elise! It sounds like you have developed intense Orchiditis. You are past a cure, sorry. :gasp:
I've had that same dream/nightmare. :faint: Fortunately, orchids are quite forgiving and generally thrive and last months and months producing bigger and better blooms....and and and......:whew I predict you will be moving more furniture and surrounding yourself with more gorgeous blooms in the very near future. Seems to be what happens when you have full blown Orchiditis. ;) But the great part is you have all of us!!!!! And we love pics!!!!! :) |
