Cold question

Hello all,
I had a quick question about a problem that happened to me today. I was waiting for fedex to deliver an Angraecum and a Rhynchostylis when I feel asleep and the box ended up being outside for a few hours. The temperature was around 45-50f and sunny. I found the box in the sun as well. Is this couple of hours in 45-50f likely to have damaged the plants? The Angraecum looks perfectly normal. The Rhynchostylis (pictured) is a paler green than the Angraecum, but I’m not sure it isn’t supposed to be like that naturally. Neither plant has soft leaves or tissue collapse in any way. They were also both packed really well. |
I don't think there will be a problem at those temperatures, certainly not for just a few hours. If they were in the sun, the cool temps may have actually helped because the direct sun can be TOO warm. (Think of the car with the windows up)

Which Angraecum did you get? Cannot help but be curious....

I am at the epicenter of the NY epidemic so I’ve been keeping myself busy by running up orchid debt as I cannot leave the house. I miss the NYBG so much (especially the star magnolias and the magnolia zenii I see every year) but my home orchids will have to sustain me for now. |
Angraecums seem to be my favorite orchids lately. I plan on branching out into the Aerangis genus soon to find out if there are any I will fall in love with. I’ve been looking especially closely at Aerangis biloba and fastuosa. I’ve also been investigating Cyrtorchis as a genus as I am told they are nicely fragrant.

That is a large one! Good luck with your collecting!
If you like fragrant orchids, try a Phal bellina clone that is labeled as very fragrant. I have Phal bellina 'Star,' that I bought from Hausermann's and, after the Angraecum magdalenae, it is probably my favorite orchid. I mostly try to collect fragrant orchids. I have bought orchids without a fragrance and most of those tend to find a new home after a time. |
