Dendrobium Abberans hybrid with leaf spots
5 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone! I recently purchased this adorable new Dendrobium Abberans x (abberans x woodsii) from a local grower. I've had it for about two weeks now and began noticing some brown spots on a couple of the leaves. It sits about 9-10" under my T8 fixture in a northeastern windowsill and gets 1-2 hours of bright sun in the morning as well. It is also in a room that has a humidifier running most of the day, so the air stays pretty humid.
I am reluctant to think that these spots are sunburn, as the grower I purchased it from had the plant in a fair amount of light: so much so, that the new growth is a lovely deep red. Any advice or thoughts would be helpful, and I hope you all enjoy the little display of blooms that it is putting out! |
My Dendrobium nobile types get these spots when their leaves get wet and I’ve had them develop on one of my Vanda and Epidendrum when they got wet at cold temperatures. I think it’s fungal but if I move an affected plant inside where it’s warmer and keep the leaves dry, there is no recurrence. I just let some of my outdoor plants live with it: I try to keep water off the leaves but it will show up after a string of foggy nights and seems mostly cosmetic.

Old leaves. Damage done and over,
Don’t worry about them at all. |
Thank you both so much! I wanted to double check that there was nothing to worry about :) Happy growing!
