Hello from Seattle!
Hello everyone!
I've always been an avid grower - I actually got my B.S. in Botany specializing in Carnivorous Plants Growing up my mother had a large orchid collection and it always fascinated me, so now at the age of 26 I've decided to expand my plant collection to grow orchids. I have an indoor grow tent with LEDs and purchased about 30 different seedlings to grow out as well as a couple mature plants to enjoy. I have mostly Cattleya/hybrids (Rlc,Lc, Blc) with a couple of dendrobiums and others thrown in. I've read a few books and with my current plant knowledge I'm fully in and hitting the ground running. I anticipate I'll use this forum several times for help as I know orchids are a beast all their own. I'm in Seattle, WA so anyone local give me a shout out! |
Welcome to the forum! I also use a tent in a bright, south-facing window. I grow in Colorado so the tent is mostly for humidity and warmth in the winter. A bit unorthodox, but I've had good luck growing species catts (walkeriana, nobilior, intermedia) this way.

Washington as I have cousins that have lived not far from Seattle and I love the area and taking the ferry to the Botanical Gardens north of Victoria on Vancouver Island. There is at least one other here that has a degree in Botany. I think he is in Austin Texas. |

In my humble opinion, if you grow carnivorous plants well, orchids won't be a problem. Just a slight learning curve. |
Welcome to the Orchid Board!

Thanks everyone!!

Hi Rocksaus. I live in Seattle also. I grow inside on a light cart and a kitchen windowsill with LED and HO T5 fluorescent lights. I grow mostly species including Phals, Bulbos, Paphs, and a few other oddballs that strike my fancy.
