MINI PHAL. ???

Over the last months here in Belgium some so called real mini Phalaenopsis turned up in plant stores. The colors are mostly pink, dark purple, white and found a bicolor one today (and finaly could'nt resist bying it). They sell by the name of "Flower Pearl Orchids", originating from Denmark. As you can see in the pics below the leaves are quite small, looking like Dts leaves but smaler.
Dus anyone know What parents they originate from or what hybrid name is?

I saw loads of what looked like this at the London Orchid Show... about half of the vendors seemed to have them. I believe they did have a grex name (which would allow you to look up the parentage) but I didn't pay attention to what it was.

I hope someone else can help more!

They are sold here in Switzerland as "Mini" Phalaenopsis Little Lady and are in almost every single supermarket

however, it could just be a marketing name, as they come in diferent colours...

These seem to be showing up more and more here in the U.S. I got one from ebay a few weeks back. I can't help with a name for yours but I sure would like to have it.
Here is a pic of mine. It is tagged P. Sogo Charm and I can only trace it back to its parents. As a pure guess I think it might have P. equestris in the background.

To find a hybrid's parents or to name it without any Id is very difficult as it's lineage can come from a number of other hybrids .. The best we can all do is guess .. but in the end it's a NOID (Not IDentifiable). I agree with Al that it looks to have Phal. equestris in it's background ..
Was a vendor tag provided or can you find out where it was grown? :hmm
You may have a chance at Id-ing it if you know what nursery it came from

Ok I looked into these Little Ladys and found this article -
http://www.sogo-orchids.com.tw/news/...alaenopsis.pdf

There is a hybrid called Phalaenopsis Little Lady
= Phal cornu- cervi X Phal Lady Rothschild (Vaughn 1/1/1961)
Phal Lady Rothschild = Phal Intermedia X Phal sanderiana
(L. 1/1/1900)
Phal Intermedia = Phal aphrodite X phal equestris
(Veitch 1/1/1886)

Question .. is it the same Phal ? :hmm
And what does 'protected brand' mean? A patented hybrid? :scratchhead:
If anyone has more info on this, I'd love to know about it :D

If you go to: SOGO ORCHIDS
and choose 'Products' on the left hand menu, then select 'Mini' on the right hand side menu... have a look at SOGO F-1737 - looks very much like your's. Maybe if you write to them, they can tell you if it has a registered name?

Hi Dorothy, apparently there are some growers patenting "brand names" for their plants. There is also Phal "Sexy Pink", which is not the hybrid name but the protected brand name with which it is commercialized. This is becoming quite popular here in EU now... right name is supposed to be Phal Sogo Champion, but I have seen it also named as Phal Leopard Prince Sogo...

Odd. I wonder if the growers are of the mind that it will sell better with the "brand name" as opposed to the hybrid name?

That's all we need .. are more names .. especially when they aren't the registered names .. :faint:
I understand it's for the sake of commercialism but I think it's ridiculous
Kavanaru - that means that the brand names don't correspond to any specific hybrid basically making it a NOID :( .. like I said .. ridiculous ..
