beginner here!
Recently acquired this pholidota articulata
i water every morning by soaking the roots in water for a few minutes.

the root tips started getting black :( any advice?

Too dry in general. It looks like that wood plank would suck the water right out of the plant. Low humidity, maybe.

Try immersing the mount for an hour or so.

Hello. My chinensis is in sphagnum and an imbricata in bark so I believe the extra humidity these type of medium provide are more desireable.

Maybe you can mount some water container on the side of this wooden board, and use some micro-fibre strips wick water from the water container onto the wooden board. Could nail the ends of the micro-fibre strips to various parts of the board.

Or a timer spray system that periodically sprays the board with water.

Otherwise - could also grow this orchid in a pot.

hey happy new year! i see a lot of other local orchid growers keep their orchids on wood planks i guess this isnt a good practise? ill be soaking it longer now though thanks!

If convenient - automatic watering could help here. The system could just be made to automatically spray some water onto the board every few hours or so - spraying the board in the regions around the roots area that is. But I guess that if this is done, then the sprayer could just water the both the board and the roots as well.

Alternatively, if your plant grows well in its pot already, as I can see the plant is potted in something, then you might not need to do anything. Just allow the orchid to grow in that pot.
